Longhorn Gets Loose After Cattle Drive in Colorado Springs

Forget about a bull in a china shop, a longhorn got loose and charged into an art gallery after escaping from a cattle drive being held over the weekend in downtown Colorado Springs, Colorado.

According to KKTV, the longhorn took a wrong turn and got loose as a couple of cowboys pursued the maverick trying to herd it back to the cattle drive. Amber Keller took video of the longhorn going into the Gallery of Contemporary art where she works.

"I was out watching the Ride for Brand Cattle Drive and I had recorded all of the activity as they were coming by and it was over," Keller told the station. "Then at one point I heard some yelling and I saw people kinda scrambling around and so I picked up my phone and started recording and what you see is that one of the longhorns just got loose from the group."

The longhorn was part of the annual "Ride for the Brand Cattle Drive" that kicks off an annual "Ride for the Brand Ranch Rodeo" held every year in Colorado Springs. The event is meant to give people a chance to see cowboys in action, and this year, the spectators had an up close and personal look after two cowboys roped the longhorn to get it back under control after it broke free.

The animal charged onto the sidewalk where a group of people were standing, and knocked over a baby stroller, moving toward the gallery. People can be seen scrambling to get out of the way of the huge beast, as it moved into the plaza lobby with glass doors. One cowboy on horseback follows the animal, trying to rope the bull as it enters the lobby, while another cowboy is located on the other side of the shop. People can be seen trying to hold the doors shut until they see the cowboy inside the gallery lasso the animal. The people step aside, where the second cowboy is waiting and is able to successfully rope the animal.

The bull is taken out into the street, while onlookers cheer for the cowboys.

"Well honestly it was just, record it, and I don't know why," Keller said with a laugh. “I grew up in Colorado Springs and I have worked downtown my entire career and so we always come make it a point to watch and just be a part of it.”

No injuries were reported as part of the incident.
